I am a Young Person
At Youthline, we aspire to build a community where every young person is appreciated, understood, and empowered to navigate life's intricacies. Our dedication is to assist young individuals in working through their emotions, fostering resilience, and embracing positive changes.
Seeking counselling support early can really help your ability to cope with and overcome difficult feelings and thoughts. If you are not sure who to talk to, contact Youthline for support before your mental health develops into something more serious.
We all need support from time to time, and Youthline offers a safe and confidential space to talk through whatever your issue is. One of our counsellors will be assigned to work with you for up to 50 minutes each week over a period of up to 24 weeks. It is important to note that counselling is a collaborative process and can work well when you are able to talk about your thoughts and feelings.
All we ask in return is that you make a commitment to attend a weekly session, at the same time and day each week and that you let us know if you are unable to attend.
Please be aware that we do have a waiting list, but the more flexibility you can offer with days and times, the sooner you will be offered a session.
Counselling service for young people of secondary school age and up to 25
How does counselling work?
A counselling session involves talking with your counsellor one to one on a weekly basis in a safe, confidential space. Your counsellor will listen to you without making judgements and will help you to explore your personal thoughts, feelings and experiences.
It’s not always easy to talk therefore your counsellor will have various resources and activities and might suggest some creative activities to do together to help you, like drawing or playing a game.
You will not be pressured to talk about anything you do not want to. Many people are nervous at first in what is a new and different experience, but these feelings are quite natural. It can be hard to take that first step, but whatever your problem, however big or small, you will be made welcome here at Youthline and listened to with respect.
